Women's fiction is not normally the genre that I gravitate to, but I LOVE THIS BOOK. I immediately became attached to these women, relating to some of them and wishing to be some of them. It's a fairytale but it's real life all at once, centered around the friendships of these five women. It's hilarious and heart-breaking at the same time. The ending made my heart swell and I'm sad that my time with these women is over. That is, until I read it again.
Wonderful story of friendship, marriage, & relationships. Parts made me so happy I found myself tearing up and other parts pulled my heartstrings and I was tearing up yet again. Very relatable story. I'm so glad I read The Breakup Mix.
Ever start a book and have to put it down and call your best of friends just to say you were thinking of them? That's the effect this book has on you. Funny and heartwarming, make you crazy mad and all the other possible emotions too along the way is the roller coaster this story and group of characters takes you on. I loved it.
I laughed and I cried; this book seriously gave me the feels. It startled me, at times, how parallel my life was to one of these well developed characters...and because of that, I was able to connect with this story as a whole on a deeper level. I'm not usually one to read "chic lit", but I'm glad I jumped into The Breakup Mix.
The characters in The Breakup Mix feel incredibly familiar. About halfway through, I figured out why--not only did I recognize my friends in the characters, but I recognized different elements of MYSELF. This is a dialogue-propelled story, and the dialogue is REAL and heartfelt. I laughed and cried and cringed and hoped for these ladies, and when I was done...I was ready for a sequel. This wasn't because the story felt unfinished, but because I wasn't ready for my new friends to be gone from my life. I'm also waiting for the soundtrack. )
Happy to say that this book really captured and kept my attention. I'm never sure about sappy love stories, but this one is mostly about friendships and is very good. I don't like books that have lots of bad language and detailed descriptions of every sex act so I felt pretty comfortable with the breakup mix. Good job Tami!
Lifelong friends share their lives, their ups-and-downs, and their accomplishments, because that's what best friends do. And they help each other along the way. The author tells their individual and combined stories through each woman's eyes, using rotating first-person points-of-view. That's not easy to do. The author has to know each character inside and out to pull that off, and TK Carter not only did that, she also did a great job bringing these women to life and making the reader care about each one of them equally.
